Red Hot Hockey – November 26, 2011

November is here! and you know what that means! Enjoy some hockey with your turkey again this year, as the Cornell Big Red Men’s Ice Hockey team takes on the Boston University Terriers in newly renovated Madison Square Garden. This event is expected to sell out, as it has for the teams’ previous meetings in 2007 and 2009. Cornell and BU have collectively sent over 90 former players forward to the National Hockey League, including Douglas Murray, Ken Dryden and Joe Nieuwendyk.

Big Red Hockey Pre-game Party

Join your classmates and the classes of the ’90s at Legends Sports Bar before the red hot hockey game for some socializing and warming up!

Legends is located at 6 West 33rd Street in Manhattan, (on the south side of 33rd across the street from the Empire State Building just west of 5th Avenue.) Closest subways are the 4,6 @ 33rd St, or any train that stops at Penn Station or Herald Square (which is most of them).

Warm up starts at 4:30pm until face-off.

Pre-registration for Reunion & Wine Tour

Also the Class of ’96 is teaming up with other classes for a Winery Tour on Friday June 10.  It’s $40 per person, and people should email amc1@cornell to register — last day is TODAY!

Bag lunch from Collegetown Bagels:
(1) Smoked Turkey with cheddar cheese, sprouts, and aioli on a multigrain roll
(2) Roast Beef with red onions and horseradish sauce on an onion roll
(3) Fresh Mozzarella with tomato, basil pesto, and mayonnaise on gluten-free bread (vegetarian and gluten-free)
Each sandwich comes with an assorted jumbo cookie (gluten-free available), individual bag of chips, and a soda or juice.

NYC Pre-reunion happy hour next Wednesday 16-March at the Cornell Club

A special pre-Reunion event:

The Metro-NY Pre-Reunion Happy Hour is March 16 in NYC!

Join friends and classmates on Wednesday, March 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Cornell Club of New York for the wildly popular Pre-Reunion Happy Hour. Undergraduate classmates of the 1s and 6s, including graduates of the Johnson and Law schools, are cordially invited to gather in celebration of their upcoming Reunion.

Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and good conversation, and begin making plans to enjoy Cornell’s campus to the fullest this coming June. Pre-registration is required: we can only accommodate 225 people. On-site walk-ins will be accommodated only if space allows.

-Fun-in-the-Sun carnival for kids Saturday afternoon on the Arts Quad

-Saturday night Dinosaur BBQ dinner on Beebe Lake (canoeing available on the lake during dinner)

-Special farewell breakfast buffet on Sunday morning (continental breakfast also on Friday and Saturday mornings)

Class of ’96 Fifteen Year Reunion! Thurs June 9 – Sunday June 12, 2011

Can you believe that it’s been fifteen years already since we graduated from Cornell?  By now, we’ve all established ourselves firmly in our lives, and for many of us, our time on the hill is a very warm memory from almost half a lifetime away.  This summer we have the opportunity to head back to the university from which many of us set sail into the world to do our big things or our not so big things.

Reunion year brings alumni back from all over the world to catch up with old friends and see what Cornell has been doing with itself since we moved on.  It also gives us the chance to share our stories in the very landscape where they were formed with spouses, significant others, and children who may never have been there.

Please mark your calendar and join hundreds of your former classmates if you can in Ithaca late this springtime for our 15 year reunion!

Big Red Men’s Holiday Ice Hockey vs. Colgate University

Join fellow 1996 classmates, other Cornell alumni and current students in the stands as the Big Red Men’s Ice Hockey team takes on the Raiders of Colgate University at the home of the New Jersey Devils- the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The ECAC Hockey Writers and Broadcasters As…sociation forecasts a fourth place finish for Colgate team this year, while placing Cornell in second place. The Prudential Center, which opened in October 2007, is a $375 million dollar facility. Also host to the Seton Hall Men’s Basketball team, the New Jersey Nets, the performing arts, and other special events, Prudential Center is the cornerstone of a $2 billion dollar revitalization program in the city of Newark.

Metro/Directions: Located in downtown Newark, just 2 blocks from Newark Penn Station. The arena is accessible via New Jersey Transit, PATH and Amtrak. Bounded by Edison Place to the north, Lafayette Street to the south, Mulberry Street to the east and Broad Street and City Hall to the west.
